“Au fond du temple saint” (e. “At the back of the holy temple”) is a duet from Georges Bizet’s 1863 opera “Les pêcheurs de perles” (e. “The Pearl Fishers”).
It is one of the most beautiful and popular arias in Western opera. It is sung in a duet harmony by characters Nadir (tenor) and Zurga (baritone) in act 1.
I am raised on classical music and opera. I need music around me most times. This piece I listen to each Christmas, for some reason.
I like this aria best when it is sung by the old masters Jussi Björling and Robert Merrill. It is an old recording, but it is haunting and mesmerizing.
Give it a go. You will feel better.
