“The Scream” is a painting made by Norwegian painter Edvard Munch in 1893. The painting was made during a tumultuous period in his life, marked by personal tragedies and mental health struggles.
On January 22, 1882, while walking with friends along a path in Oslo, Munch experienced a moment of intense anxiety. He described the scene in his diary:
“I was walking along the road with two friends – the sun was setting – suddenly the sky turned blood red. I paused, feeling exhausted, and leaned on the fence… I sensed an infinite scream passing through nature”.
This vivid imagery of the sky and his emotional turmoil became the foundation for the painting.
