YOUR SHADOW

Who are we all really, deep down?
which aspect of you, do you frown
what part of you, do you hide away
who are we, at the end of the day

Carl Jung described a thing in us all
a character, upon who we never call
filled with negative traits that we hide
the part of ourselves we can’t abide

the envy, jealousy, laziness and hate
repressed fantasies, locked in a gate
longings we have to do others harm
the shameful part of us, we do alarm

the more we deny it, stronger it grows
and through subconscious action flows
so stare it in the face, admit your flaws
deny it power, and never give it cause

to rule your own actions, in a hidden way
thwart your ambitions, with another play
take control of your shadow, by the neck
with intention, you keep yourself in check.
