BIRTHDAY

On this day I turn a year older
a little wiser and a bit bolder,
grateful to have come this far
my body aging like an old car

and I am tempted to compare
myself to old pictures n’ stare,
at a man who has always been
in his heart, still only nineteen

but still I will need to soldier on
I have important to press upon
for poems, stories are my bread
and feed me well, until I’m dead.
