SLEEP

SLEEP

Sleep and I have a complex relationship
from early childhood to the current day
I know not how I offended it so deeply,
it has rarely awarded me with a good rest
nor projected my dreams with offerings
of any helpful messages and foresight,
or pleasant movies of good adventures,
but it is more of a torturous session of
incomprehensible and historical rewinds
of a drudgingly unlived past and present
without logic or practicality in any sense.

I only look forward to the waking world
whilst I dislike the duty of having to rest
and sleep, but for the body and sanity
I embark each evening on the journey
of hellish expeditions, into my minds
subconsciousness, where there are no
friends or safe havens, but that is my
destiny and my rare curse to endure,
like fighting off a Mare of nights past
or staving away the wandering ghosts,
I feel some kinship with Edgar Allan Poe
which comforts me a little in the dark
but I am used to this, and I will be fine.
