He swam away
Many years ago when I entered rehab for the first and only time, I met a man who was recovering himself from an addiction to certain pharmaceutical drugs. He had been a counsellor for the rehab program himself, some years before. He was about 10 years older than me and he taught me a lot, to help speed my recovery. He was a manic depressive personality, which came to him in waives, up and down. When he entered the rehab program, he was in a positive manic state and cheerful all around. But three weeks in, the depressive side of him emerged, and he quit the program. He just said goodbye to us and went about his way. The last thing I heard of him, was in the summer of that same year, where he swam away in the ocean off the coast by a public beach, never to be seen again.
