FAREWELL TO SUMMER

FAREWELL TO SUMMER

I sense the last gasps of summer
as autumn is impatient in waiting
very ready to blast in an entrance
with it’s wind and clouds and rain
to change the canvas of the trees
from the green to yellow and red
robbing me of my outside dining
my lounging around sunbathing
waking me up from a warm dream
filling me up with dread of winter
to the reality of the earth’s cycles
the mundane that soon follows
reminding me I have no agency
in the circumstances around me
for I too must follow my lifespan
bringing me closer to my death.
