RISK
Living is all about doing, about taking action. Some action is a response to outside factors and some action is taken due to inside factors. The inside factors are one’s own decision to act, and with that comes an assessment of risk, the risk evaluation of the consequences of any action taken. Every decision hinges on this evaluation, unless one could care less of any consequences, good or bad. Most of us do this evaluation automatically, in a fraction of a second. Some of us linger in this evaluation forever. There is no shame in that really. There are entire fields of business dedicated to the management of risk, which we call insurance companies.
The matters of risk become more hazardous for us when we assess the personal or societal risk, in our human interactions. We may hesitate to put ourselves forward, for romantic pursuits or for a career advancement, due to the delay of pondering over a risk or a perceived risk, which our intended action might have for ourselves. This hesitation is most often to our own detriment, manifesting itself as a fight or flight response, sometimes leading to a freeze stalemate of indecision and inaction. This then gives birth to frustration against our nature, which then leads to “beating yourself up” about all this. This self berating is you fighting against and resenting the core function of the brain and nervous system, to keep yourself safe and free from risk and perceived harm.
But, risk is necessary and healthy risk is good. Have faith in yourself. Like Henry Ford said: “Whether you think you can or you think you canĀ“t, you are right.”
