The big waterbomb of 1977

In the spring of 1977 when I was five years old and my sister Hekla was eight, we had a big crowd of friend that we played with all summer long. There were around 10-15 of us usually, that kept together and played games everywhere in my neighborhood. I grew up in a neighborhood with 3 big apartment building, each 12 stories high, and around then were smaller building with 4 apartments each, one on top of the other. My sister and I lived in one of the smaller buildings.

It was one afternoon that us kids were playing together with our friends, in the room belonging to “Little Maggie”. She was called that because she was younger and smaller than the other Maggie. She lived on the 6th floor in one of the big apartment buildings. After playing on the balcony together one of the kids had a wicked idea. She suggested to make a huge waterbomb, by filling up big plastic groceries bag with water, tying it closed and drop in down from the 6th floor, next to someone walking in the back entrance of the building. All the kids agreed that this was the best idea ever made, so we all went into the kitchen and found a big plastic bag. We found one and the big kids started to fill it up with water. They managed to fill it up and tie it closed. Then we all assisted in getting the heavy water bomb to the balcony and get a kitchen chair, so we could lift it up and throw it over. We got everything ready and waited for our victim. We had to wait for about 10 minutes and then a young woman jumped into the building, so fast that she was gone before we could launch the bomb. We waited another 5 minutes and a teenager ran inside, too fast for us to launch the bomb. The finally after another 5 minutes of waiting, an old man with a gray flatcap hat came of a car and made his way to the building entrance. Now we had time to launch the bomb, we got it up and waited for the right second. The bomb was dropped and it landed right next to the poor old man, on his left and then the whole neighborhood heard a scream “What the devil !!!!!!!!!!!”. The second we heard the scream, everyone ran form the balcony and into the apartment, closed the door and said nothing. We all ran into Little Maggie´s room, closed the door and then exploded with laughter.
